I love the opportunity to connect with young readers and artists to see them excited about the visual story-telling medium of comics! A visit is typically 45 minutes in length and consists of three parts: an “About Me” slideshow presentation (sharing my journey from hand-made comics as a kid to the types of work I make now), a discussion on how graphic novels are made, a short interactive segment featuring my newest graphic novel, Millie of the Manor, and if time allows — questions!
I also offer a comics workshop suited for smaller groups of students (10-25 students) which takes kids through the basics of cartooning, designing a character, and creating a short (1-2 page) comic. (Supplies to be provided by school/library: paper, pencils/erasers, pens). This can be added to an author visit, or held as a standalone event, and can run at either 45 or 90 minutes.
